As the second largest city in the South Island, Dunedin is known for its student culture. Today, the city retains a strong Scottish flavour born from it's past when it was known as New Edinburgh; there's haggis at New Year, a statue of Robbie Burns in the town square -- or rather the town Octogon -- and the sound of bagpipes to accompany every occasion.
